Linen Chest Madrone burl veneers, air-dried walnut, hard maple, oil varnish, satin-lacquer finish. The madrone veneers are laid up in a four-way center and but-match pattern. The design of this three-drawer chest is intended to give the perception that the chest is floating between the four legs, thus perpetuating a light and airy feel. The pattern and color reflect the natural world with a subtle curly pattern and terra cotta/coral pink color. | |

"Curves emulate the natural world."
Brian Sargent is inspired by nature and curves as they are reflected in the natural world. He is energized by pushing the limits of material and seeks to use both positive and negative space within his designs.
"My life long goal has been to design and build quality handcrafted furniture. My education and job experience has been a 25-year journey toward this goal. Nashoba Technical High School started me in this direction. Employment in fine furniture making shops refined my technical skills and educational workshops at the North Bennett Street School, Center for Furniture Craftsmanship with Silas Kopf and Furniture Design Seminars by Wendell Castle gave me an appreciation for creative and quality design. Association with the Guild of New Hampshire Woodworkers has helped to sustain and promote my interest. I am a state juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
A curve to me is not static. It is free to move just as nature moves freely around us. I strive to have movement in my designs. Just as there are no straight lines in nature, I use curves in my pieces to reflect the freedom of movement in the natural world." |
